Hello and welcome to the first part of my Oscars Predictions List, where I go through the list of nominees and using my awesome film knowledge, I predict who might possibly win and who might give a serious push to the win. Now the first part will feature more of the technical nods (I’ll leave the best categories for part 2), so lets get on with the show! Firstly, let's start with the sound categories: Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. I will not explain the difference to you (because I don't understand it myself) and here are the nominees for Sound Editing: Blade Runner 2049 Dunkirk Baby Driver The Shape of Water Star Wars: The Last Jedi Well the obvious winner here is Dunkirk. Have you seen the film? It’s such a beautifully crafted film and the sound editing is close to perfection, although Baby Driver will run it close. For Sound Mixing: … Well, it's the same five nominees and again, Dunkirk will triumph over all again with Baby Driver coming close. It doesn't seem to be a competition though. Next on the list are categories I have no idea of, so random guesses for me. I won't even try to fake know these movies. So… For Best Live Action Short: DeKalb Elementary The Eleven o’Clock My Nephew Emmett The Silent Child Watu Wote *rolls the dice* and the award goes to The Silent Child, because I like the name. For Best Animated Short: Dear Basketball Garden Party Lou Negative Space Revolting Rhymes Now I might actually know something about this and a little birdie told me that Lou could win this category, although my heart wants Dear Basketball to win but only because I want to see Kobe Bryant to win an Oscar. I'd love it so much! Best Makeup and Hairstyling: Victoria and Abdul Wonder Darkest Hour Now I haven't gotten around to see Wonder, but the makeup in Darkest Hour is phenomenal. It actually made me believe that it was Winston Churchill on the screen and not just Gary Oldman playing Churchill. It looks that good. Best Production Design: Beauty and the Beast Darkest Hour Blade Runner 2049 Dunkirk The Shape of Water This is an odd one for me to select. I mean, all the sets in the above films were good, from the beaches of France in Dunkirk to a futuristic setting in Blade Runner to an undercover base which doubles as a sewage plant in The Shape of Water.. I think it might go to Beauty and the Beast. It’s a feeling that I have. Best Costume Design: Beauty and the Beast Darkest Hour Phantom Thread The Shape of Water Victoria and Abdul If this doesn't go to Phanton Thread, then I don't know anymore. The movie is literally about a fashion designer in the 50’s. Best Documentary: Abacus: Small Enough To Jail Icarus Faces Places Last Men in Aleppo Strong Island Time to pull a rabbit out of the hat blindfolded and out I pull… Last Men In Aleppo. Id like to see that win, for reasons. Best Documentary Short: Edith + Eddie Heroin(e) Knife Skills Traffic Stop Heaven is a Traffic Jam on the 405 On title alone, Heaven should win, but i’m leering towards Heroin(e), because it’s probably about drugs. Most likely. Won't Google it at all. The last category I will be looking at in part 1 is Best Visual Effects: Blade Runner 2049 Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Kong: Skull Island War for the Planet of the Apes Star Wars: The Last Jedi This is a near impossible task (except Guardians. Scrap that). They were all technical marvels, but I'm sorta veering towards Blade Runner 2049. The others all come really close, but I'm sticking with Blade Runner. Well thank you for joining me in reading the lame Oscar categories first. In the next part, I will go over who will win in all the other, way better categories (according to me). Source: Pickles
