Hello and welcome to Part 2 of my Oscars Prediction List, where I predict who might potentially win and if I do get 90% of my predictions right, I was promised much candybars and girthy mandingos. So let's carry on with the show, ey? First up is Best Original Score Dunkirk Phantom Thread The Shape of Water Star Wars: The Last Jedi Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri My heart is really going towards Jonny Greenwood for Phantom Thread. I mean who wouldn't want Radiohead (or a part of), but I have a feeling Alexander Desplat will win for The Shape of Water. It's a beautiful soundtrack regardless of what anyone says. Best Original Song: “Mighty River” from Mudbound “Mystery of Your Love” from Call Me By Your Name “Remember Me” from Coco “Stand Up For Something” from Marshall “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman If Remember Me does not win, WE RIOT!! Best Adapted Screenplay: Call Me By Your Name Mudbound Molly’s Game Logan The Disaster Artist This is a hard one to select because the contenders aren't too strong, but this would probably go to Call Me By Your Name. I hope. Best Original Screenplay: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Lady Bird Get Out The Shape of Water The Big Sick The Shape of Water might win this, but I want GET OUT to win. Honestly, one of the best films of last year paired with an original story… I dig it and I pray it wins (even if it won't) Best Foreign Feature: A Fantastic Woman Loveless The Insult The Square On Body and Soul A few weeks ago, I was really rooting for Loveless to win, but my heart has changed and I'm looking forward for A Fantastic Woman to win. It would also give the LGBTQ community a much needed boost. Best Animated Feature: Coco Ferdinand Loving Vincent The Boss Baby The Breadwinner The winner is Coco. Nuff said. And now for the awards that makes my nipples poke out for attention. Best Cinematography Blade Runner 2049 Dunkirk Mudbound The Shape of Water Darkest Hour The clear winner to me is Blade Runner. Never has a futuristic setting look so mesmerising before. I mean, Dunkirk would come really close, but Blade Runner for the win (unless you're Oscar Pistorius) Best Director: Guillermo Del Toro for “The Shape of Water” Greta Gerwig for “Lady Bird Paul Thomas Anderson for “Phantom Thread” Jordan Peele for “Get Out” Christopher Nolan for “Dunkirk” Any other year, this was PTA’s to lose, but unfortunately the behemoth known as Guillermo Del Toro (who has been snapping up awards left, right and centre) will win this and it's richly deserved. The Shape of Water is such a beautifully constructed film and his vision is astounding. Top class. Best Supporting Actress: Octavia Spencer for “The Shape of Water” Mary J. Blige for “Mudbound” Laurie Metcalfe for “Lady Bird” Lesley Manville for “Phantom Thread” Alison Janney for “I, Tonya” Considering Alison Janney has been scooping up every single award for playing Tonya Harding’s mom with such conviction, it would be a shock if she didn't win and I can't pick an alternative. Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe for “The Florida Project” Sam Rockwell for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” Christopher Plummer for “All The Money In The World” Richard Jenkins for “The Shape of Water” Woody Harrelson for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Another clear winner in Sam Rockwell, playing a racist deputy sheriff. Willem Dafoe will run it pretty close though. Best Actress: Frances McDormand for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” Sally Hawkins for “The Shape of Water” Margot Robbie for “I, Tonya” Saoirse Ronan for “Lady Bird” Meryl Streep for “The Post” All of these performances (bar Meryl Streep) are great and it's honestly hard to choose one, but my gut (and momentum) says Frances McDormand for the win. It’s been over 20 years since her last win for Fargo (brilliant film!), so I'm happy that she's going to win. Also love her IDGAF attitude. It's a change, ya know. Best Actor: Gary Oldman for “Darkest Hour” Daniel Kaluuya for “Get Out” Daniel Day Lewis for “Phantom Thread” Timothee Chalamet for “Call Me By Your Name” Denzel Washington for “Roman J. Israel Esq. “ I'd be selfish to want any of the Daniels to win, because that would be awesome, but I know that this year is Gary Oldman’s time to shine… And it's about bloody time! Best Picture: The Shape of Water Dunkirk Phantom Thread Lady Bird Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Get Out The Post Call Me By Your Name Darkest Hour This is a tough category, yet there are only 2 outright favourites. It's Three Billboards vs The Shape of Water… My gut says it's The Shape of Water, but we shall see. We shall see indeed. Well, that's my predictions for the 2018 Academy Awards. Fingers crossed!
