Luis Alberto Suárez Díaz (Photo not found) A sensationally gifted player and a controversy magnet. Yet there is something that is very much unique to him, the ability to use every bit of grass to his advantage. It is really harsh the way he is being treated by the press and fans around the world. It won't be wrong to say that Luis Suarez is next only to Lionel Messi in God given talent on a football pitch. Suarez has had his own fair amount of controversies before moving to Liverpool FC from Ajax. There isn't a football fan on the planet who doesn't know about Suarezs handball against Ghana in the 2010 World Cup. That made him a marked man. His reputation was not helped when he was banned for seven matches for biting an opponent. (Photo not found) It's easy for people to hate Suarez. He is a terrier on the football pitch. He chases everything, always wants the ball and never gives up. Sometimes he oversteps the mark, far more rarely than the press would have you believe. The ill-fated match against Manchester United in which he allegedly racially abused Evra hasn't helped either. Anyone who has actually bothered to read the FA s report, could debate the Suarez- Evra incident for hours. But that's a different conversation. (Photo not found) It is frustrating to see his 'reputation' definitely seem to influence referees to giving decisions against him. He may well be driven out of the Premiere League if he continues to be vilified. That would be a real loss for the EPL because he is easily among the best attacking players in the world. Worst of all is the sheer hypocrisy that anything involving Suarez inevitably entails. People and media were calling for blood when a Manchester City fan confronted Ferdinand but no one seemed to care when a Mansfield fan tried to attack Suarez .Well, infact nobody really seemed to care, Messi and Maradona handling the ball, Cantona stamping a fan, Scholes handling a Bobby Zamora header in 2009 and Phil Neville handling a goal bound ball against Liverpool. We're all outraged by the activities of others and keen to defend our own. But it is really hypocritical to just target a single player because of the 'mistakes ' he has done in the past. What most people tend to forget is what an amazing player Suarez is. He is exactly the kind of player every team would love to have in a team. Robin Van Persie and Gareath Bale are of course amazing footballers. But Suarez's game is just not about goals and amazing runs. He is second only to Baines in the number of assists in the league. He also plays an important part in winning back balls and the defensive side of his team. That makes him all the more important to the team. But his 'reputation' might well cost him a Player Of The Year award this season. Author: Me6 0
