India were chasing a challenging 167 for victory and were almost out of the contest after Mustafizur Rahman bowled the 18th over giving away just 1 run and picked up the important wicket of Manish Pandey. With 34 required of 12 balls, in walked Dinesh Karthik and started to smash the ball from the word go hitting the first ball he faced from Rubel Hossain for a six. Karthik went on to hammer 22 runs in the penultimate over and then with 5 runs needed from the final ball he slammed one over extra-cover for a six to trigger massive celebrations all around the stadium. Bangladesh players, especially Soumya Sarkar who bowled the final over, were on their knees dejected which brought an even bigger smile on the faces of the Sri Lankan fans. Perhaps the best scene of the night, apart from Karthik's last ball six, was when a Sri Lankan fan picked up Team India's superfan Sudhir Gautam and celebrated the win as if both India and the home nation had won.
