The 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup will be held this year in Russia from the 17th June - 2nd July. It's a tournament that's held every 4 years as a precursor to the FIFA World Cup, which happens a year later.
This tournament basically gives us fans a taste of what's to come when the World Cup happens; it shows how ready a country is or how far along are they to hosting such a huge event as the FIFA World Cup.
There are 8 teams participating in this years event. The teams consists of the host nation, the 2014 World Cup winners and each of the 6 continental confederations.
They are divided into two groups of 4 and are allocated in a group according to their world rankings at the time of the draw.
3 matches in the group stage, where the top 2 in each group heads to the semi-finals and fight for a place in the final.
The teams are:
• Russia (Hosts)
• Germany (2014 FIFA World Cup Winners)
• Portugal (European Winners)
• Australia (Asian Winners)
• Chile (South American Winners)
• Mexico (North American Winners)
• New Zealand (Oceania Winners)
• Cameroon (African Winners)
Groups are as follows:
Group A consists of Russia, Germany, Portugal and Chile. Group B consists of Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Cameroon.
