Dr Mehmet Emin Karagil, the internal medicine doctoe at the eastern mediterrenean university health center in a short interview, defined asthma as the obstruction of the airwaves, and also the swelling and narrowing of the breathing tract which makes breathing difficult. He went further to state the different causes which are also the different types of asthma: (Photo not found) First, there is the common one which is the allergy induced asthma. The second is asthma caused by infections, the third is asthma caused by irritations due to the poison in the air and the last one is exercise, "some people have no problem but when they do heavy exercise they have difficulty breathing". He explained that asthma starts at childhood and that 80% of childhood asthma is outgrown, but the remaining 20% countries throughout one's life, and it can show itself anytime. "It has been said that infections are the one of the causes of asthma but it should be also known that an asthmatic person is born with asthmatic characters, which after a while gives way for an infection which will trigger the asthma, which is the ability to contract the airwaves" he said. Dr Mehmet made it clear that the airwaves of an asthmatic persons lungs is different from that of a normal person, he then brought out a chart with pictures to illustrate the differences. He explained that the mucosal and the epithelium have increased secretion in an asthmatic person and it is thicker, the extracting cells are doing more extraction and the inflamed cells come into the tissue. The lining of the epithelium is thicker and the blood vessels are wider. He also made us understand that the secretion of normal person's airwaves is to clean it but in that of an asthmatic person it's too thick therefore it causes them to cough out very thick phlegm. Breathing in for an asthmatic person is easy, it is the opposite that is difficult. If you have been around an asthmatic patient then you must recognize the wheezing sound they give off whenever they want to breathe out. Afterwards, being asked what could be done to prevent an asthma attack, he explained that it depended on the causes mentioned earlier, the asthmatic person needs to avoid the main sources of the trigger and he further enlightened us on the different available medicines; Firstly there are preventives medications, Secondly medicines to stop obstruction (spam) and Thirdly medicine to stop swelling. For home remedies he mentioned that water is the best expectorant because the sputum is very thick so this helps them bring it out easily, "water is the best medicine for asthmatics" he said in conclusion.
