Nike showcases its #BETRUE collection in an ad which honours the LGBTQ community this Pride Month. Nike is really working hard to master the art of representation and equality with their campaigns in 2017. First, the sportswear brand released their ''Equality has no boundaries'' ad during America's Black History Month this year. This ad, which featured the likes of Serena Williams, LeBron James and Alicia Keys formed part of the EQUALITY initiative launched in February 2016. Later in the month of February, shortly before announcing the arrival of the Nike Pro Hijab, they gave us the pretty iconic (yet slightly controversial) ''What will they say about you?'' ad, celebrating Muslim women athletes. And because all good things come in threes, Nike has now won our hearts with their #BETRUE collection ad, starring Leiomy Maldonado. Leiomy is a Puerto Rican vogue dancer, instructor and activist known as the ''Wonder Woman of Vogue'', boasting career achievements such as that of being the first transgender woman to compete on season 4 of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew and also inspiring Beyoncé's and Britney Spears' choreography. In this ad, written and directed by Daisy Zhou to honour the LGBTQ community, we see visuals of the Wonder Woman voguing along with other dancers of the queer community, accompanied by the moving narration done by trans artist Precious Angel Ramirez. An article by Mic.com draws our attention to the fact that this is the first time voguing is actually recognised as an athletic event and it's all thanks to #BETRUE. Nike's #BETRUE collection is all about supporting the equality and inclusion of all identities both in sports and in popular culture.
