Glance At The Dawn

"Give me a bottle" said Daniels as he slipped down a five dollar note to the bartender and took his whisky and went to sit at a table. The bar was Cindy's. There were many bars in this city, Johannesburg, but many preferred Cindy's due to the old natural South African music being played at the bar, the nice drinks and ladies who served them, and the fact that there were mostly no trouble in there.

Daniel was from Capetown, but his dad naturalised to become a European and his mum remained a South African. He graduated from the university of Johannesburg with a lawyers degree but never had a job. He comes to Cindy's bar every night to get drunk and go home. Where did he get the money? By begging. Begging from his mum and and dad, relatives, friends, etc. Soon enough they all grew weary of giving him money.

As he left the bar, he nearly fell down. He was heavily drunk and it was almost 11:00 pm. He walked to where the winds carried him, life to him was unfair and so stupid and a whole lot of miserable. He reached a junction between two crossroads. Now here lies the problem; he was lost in his own town, similar en route and one could tell how distressed he was. He decided to take the left turn. Well, a few metres down the road, he thought he heard something, he overhead two guys moaning as they carried a figure into the back of a big van.The place was dark so they did not see him. Curious as he was,he crawled under the van and firmly gripped the designs under the truck. He held on tightly as the truck came to life and moved on at a steady speed. "Oh no"! He cried. He found himself in an abandoned old cottage, a place he didn't recognise. At this moment he was sober, from under the van he could see two men sitting at the porch smoking and drinking. "We're talking about 200,000 dollars here for the girl". One of them said. What the hell, its a kidnapping, Daniels thought.

He was hungry, Daniel needed to eat. His strength was failing him. He went to the back of the house when the kidnappers were fast asleep. Through he backdoor he noticed the girl writhing in pain from hunger and beatings, laying in a pool of blood. He slid through the door and picked up the poor girl, who he found was half awake. Slowly, he took her the way he came and left her at a safe side of the house. He went to check on the two imbeciles, picked up a big strong wooden ladle from the kitchen and used his drunken strength to wack the two of them simultaneously. They fell unconscious in their sleep and he found a rope and tied them both up.

He gathered the three of them into the van and with very little strength he had, and very little fuel, managed to send them all to the police.

"How is he doing doctor"?, Daniels heard a conversation. "Tired, weak but he'll make it", he heard the other reply. "Can I go in"? Yes you can".Slowly he regained consciousness and he found himself in a hospital. The man leaned closer to him and introduced himself as Mr. Gatefield, the richest man in the community of Johannesburg. Daniels tried to speak, but he was heavily recovering from what seemed to be a dream. "You saved my daughter from those demons. If it werent for you, all my money would have gone. I owe you, my daughter owes you,my family owes you, thank you and God bless you son. I don't know how, why and when you did the rescue, just get better. With this the father went out for a drink.

Two days later, after the trauma has subsided, Daniels recieved a letter of employment at one of the biggest firms in the country with a pay that would transform his life. Underneath was signed: Yours faithfully, Mr. Gatefield. It seemed he was background checked and got a matching career. As of now, he is officially known as Lawyer Bryan Daniels. How he got the job, well that's something!.
