Embracing Danger (Part One)

For the third night I'm waking up because of a nightmare, this isn't a normal thing for me. My intuition was giving me some serious warnings. What was wrong? I am enjoying my vacation on a beautiful Island, so why am I waking up sweating before the sun rises? Nothing is supposed to worry me.

"Hmm, another nightmare"? My friend Amy walked in and stretched her body to awaken herself completely. "Want some coffee"? I poured hot water into two cups before she answered, because she never refused. "With two sugars" she said. "So what did you see in your dream this time"? She was a good listener.

'"Sand was everywhere, as if the City was a huge beach. Every single person was enjoying the sun, getting tanned and they seemed to be asleep". I stopped for a moment remembering about white birds.

"Wow, that's odd". She sipped from her cup staring at me. "There were a lot of castles made of sand all over the place, and there weren't any real houses". Amy's eyes widened but she kept silent finishing with her hot coffee. "Then suddenly a white bird flew up to me and sat on one of the castles". I glanced at the window with a sense of relief, watching the sunrise.

"That's it"? Amy expected to hear more. "No, all of a sudden that castle turned into ashes". The tranquility of the sea distracted me from the beautiful view of the sunrise. I felt a bit weird.

"Was that the scariest part"? I heard sarcasm in her voice. "Not really. A few seconds after, a lot of birds appeared and everywhere they landed, be it people or castles they just disappeared or went underground". My voice was cool, but Amy was concerned by my paranoia about dreams coming true.

"Honey look, people can not drown in the sand, because it is solid. Houses are not made of sand. So it is not going to come true". She gave me a soothing smile. "Those birds had ugly human faces, they were staring at me each time they landed on something". A shiver passed through me as I remembered. "But they were white, evil is black. Calm down, let's go for some breakfast at a cafe, and then go to the beach. I didn't get a proper tan yesterday". She placed her empty cup on the table and went to the bathroom. I stayed to wash up our cups.

I didn't tell her that one of those birds landed on her head, and that's when I woke up....
