Urban fashion has been one of the most coveted fashion styles this year. It's distinctive style originates from the streets and hip hop. Urban fashion is all about taking risks. Mixing both expensive and not so expensive outfits and creating a look that works for you. It's all about invention! Celebrities such as Kanye West, Rick Ross, Rihanna, Beyonce have been seen rocking the urban look and it is undeniably fabulous on them. How daring can you be? Create your style, remix outfits, add a hint of individuality to it and turn the streets into your own runway!

BLAZERS

Blazers scream urban and class. They come in diverse vibrant colours and styles from single breasted, double breasted, light linen blazers or herringbone and tweed blazers. Blazers can be worn to various occasions and they can pass as formal or casual wear. Ladies, try pairing bright coloured blazers for example, blue, purple, green, pink, mustard with a nice skinny, shiny body-con trouser pant or even with a body-con dress! It looks super as formal wear to the office when combined with a nice chiffon blouse and pencil skirt on glamorous highheels. Guys, pair your blazer with jean and a t-shirt or with a dress shirt and tan or charcoal black chinos for a casual and cool look or even with shorts for that playful/serious aura. The formal look is not hard to pull off with blazers. A nice pair of black trousers or a nice shirt would do justice.

DENIM

We all know that the denim jacket is a classic; it just can never fade out of fashion. It is one of our major urban elements. The denim jacket comes in a wide range of shades or wash, from the very dark blue denim or black to the lightest shade of blue wash. Different shades of these jackets are more suitable for some certain occasions. For example, lighter denim wash are ideal for casual occasions, while darker shades are ideal for semi-formal occasions.
When selecting your denim jacket from the store, you should ensure you get one that fits appropriately. The lenghth of the jacket should rest on the belt for smart look. Although slouchy or saggy denim may look nice on some people if paired nicely as it exudes that laid back and cool feel, however, it would only work on people who know how to pull this off effortlessly with their individual style.

PRINT TEES

There is frenzy for printed tees at the moment. We are not talking about the regular t-shirt that we are used to; we are talking about t-shirt with futuristic graphics or real images. River Island and H&M have been one of those labels who have produced a variety of printed tees. We've seen celebrities like Rihanna, Chris Brown, Big Sean, Lil Wayne embrace this style and they have been seen wearing t-shirts with conspicuous graphics. Chris Brown's mechanical Dummy label has loads of t-shirts of this kind. White t-shirts with prints should be in your shopping basket when next you go shopping.

CHECKED OR TARTAN PATTERN SHIRTS

Most people do no know the difference between checked or Tartan material. Though the difference is minor, it nevertheless does exist and one should not be mistaken for the other. Tartan originated from Scottish culture but has become a common visual style. Tartans are patterns consisting of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Check however, is a pattern consisting of crossed horizontal and vertical lines forming square and is traditionally also associated with Scotland heritage. The easiest way to recall this is to remember the pattern on the chess board. Check mate! Checked and Tartan pattern shirts as you must have deduced by now are classic and vintage and also unisex. Get creative and try blending them with the denim jacket and a fedora hat, not forgetting really nice accessories and nice sneakers or high tops. Bruno Mars rocks this look well. This fashion can also pass for the grunge style which is famous amongst rock stars

BOW TIES

Bow ties are for the daring and bold. They come in silk, cotton, polyester or a mixture of assorted fabrics. Bow ties used to be associated with certain professions and nerds but today it is worn by some of the most fashionable people in the industry and has been seen worn in a very hip way. Urban fashion is all about re-inventing, creating your style and blending outfits in a hip way, even the ladies can pull off this look if you have the right attitude to go with it. Female stars like Modonna, Rihanna, Janelle Monae, Lady Gaga know how to make this style work for them. Guys would have little or no problem coveting this style. All that is required is charisma for a formal look or a bright coloured bow tie for a playful yet stylish appearance.
